Description: Jennifer Napaljarry Lewis illustrates the Lykarrara Jukurrpa (Desert Fringe-Rush Seed Dreaming). The Dreaming itself is associated with a place called Jaralypari, north of Yuendumu. In Lewis’ painting, the large concentric circles represent the site of Jaralypari, and the seed bearing grass Lukurrara. The straight lines signify the seeds that fall to the ground before they are collected by the Nakamarra women. These seeds are traditionally ground up to make flour, which is later used to make Aboriginal ‘damper cakes’.
