Our Story

Café Art has the unusual benefit of being an online gallery, but with a physical presence in Hemingways of Haslemere. The gallery originally started life in separate premises located in Haslemere High Street but with soaring rental costs and all the other associated costs of running a High Street Gallery, the decision to move to being based at Hemingways was an easy one! This synergy of working with another local business, has made it possible to bring fantastic original contemporary art at very affordable prices, and yet still maintaining a location to view the artwork. Best of both worlds, that benefits Café Art and our clients. It also means that visitors can enjoy fabulous food and drink at the same time!

Much of the art in our permanent collection is sourced from Gallery Director Stuart Dear’s trips abroad. He is forever searching for new work to bring back with him, making for a steadily growing gallery of international artwork. All pieces are originals and come with a certificate of authenticity.

We also actively look to support local artists. If you are a practising artist with a strong portfolio of work that fits in well with the ethos and atmosphere of Café Art, we would love to hear from you. Send an email to info@galeriedumonde.co.uk with your website, biography, and a range of high-resolution photographs.

Caution to the wise! As Aboriginal Art grows in popularity and collectablity there is unfortunately a huge amount of “Aboriginal” artwork out there that although painted in the distinct style of aboriginal art (in particular dot painting or pointillism) but which actually is not genuinely Aboriginal. Some of this work still comes from Australia but is still not genuine. Each of our works come with a certificate of authenticity and bio of the artist.
