Description: Aboriginal artist Alfreda Nungarrayi Martin provides another highly visual interpretation of the Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming). After two Jangala rainmakers danced to unleash a great storm on the site of Puyurru in West Yuendumu, the rain travelled across the land and a ‘mulju’ (soakage) still supposedly exists at the original site today. Utilising traditional forms of iconography, the short dashes in Martin’s painting represent clouds (‘mangkurdu’), flowing lines represent the flood waters (‘ngawarra’), and the circles depict soakages (‘mulju’) as well as areas of the riverbed
