Reggie Sultan (b. 1955) takes on a unique approach in the creation of his Aboriginal-inspired paintings. The artist combines the traditions of Aboriginal dot painting with his own signature approach using leaves and leaf stencils, creating distinctively speckled and colourful backgrounds. Though his parents were both Aboriginal, Sultan’s father was of Afghan descent, which has formed the basis of a varied cultural interest. Sultan’s works narrate his inherited family stories, his experiences of the bush country, and various tales of hunting and gathering through rich Aboriginal symbolism.
