Lanita Numina

Australia

Lanita Numina (b. 1965) grew up in the desert homeland of Northern Territory, Australia, and her style of work becomes a reflection of the traditions and values held by the desert people. Numina compositions reflect a deep connection to the land and its resources, combining stories of hunting and gathering with Women’s Dreaming stories and ceremonies. The artist often depicts the plants and flowers in her desert country, denoting those which can be eaten fresh, or dried and stored by the desert women over long periods.
