Alicka Napanangka Brown

Australia

Alicka Napanangka Brown (b. 1998) paints Aboriginal artworks that represent her grandmother’s Yanjirlpirri Jukurrpa (Star Dreaming) and her father’s Yarla Jukurrpa (Bush Potato Dreaming); stories that relate directly to the land, its features, and the plants and animals that inhabit it. As she integrates traditional iconography with modern colours, patterns and designs, Brown creates her own individualistic style that captures and passes on the knowledge of her traditional Jukurrpa: the Aboriginal concept that provides basis of a moral code, ways of living, and the rules for interacting with the natural environment.
